Somers
Manor Nursing Home offers an intensive physical rehabilitation
program providing an aggressive therapy regimen designed to
meet the needs and ability of each resident. We offer individualized
cardiopulmonary, orthopedic, neurological and geriatric rehabilitation
programs. Most of the individuals receiving therapy services
stay in the Berkshire Wing, our newly constructed thirty-nine
bed short-term rehabilitation unit.
An interdisciplinary team, led by a physician, works with
the patient, family, and/or caregiver to develop and implement
an individualized treatment plan. The clearly stated goal
of this team approach is to formulate a customized discharge
plan that will expedite the return of the resident to the
community. The interdisciplinary team members include; physical
and occupational therapists, speech & language pathologists,
rehabilitation nurses, therapeutic recreation specialists,
dietitians, social workers, prosthetists and orthotists.

All
members of the therapy staff are fully registered, certified
and/or licensed by the state of New York Department of Education.
The rehabilitation department currently has four physical
therapy staff, five occupational therapy staff, two speech
& language pathology staff and three rehabilitation
aides. We maintain this high ratio of staff to residents
in order to ensure that each rehab patient receives the
personal care and attention that he/she requires and deserves.
Somers
Manor has two fully equipped rehabilitation gyms to meet
the needs of each individual resident. When you take the
Virtual Tour of our facility, you can see from the pictures
that the rehabilitation staff maintain a very active department.
Currently they are providing from 80 to 120 treatment visits
per day.
Therapy services are available five days per week, Monday
through Friday. However, each person is evaluated on an
individual basis to determine their own personal needs.
If necessary, therapy services will be provided seven days
a week to set a steady course toward completion. A single
therapy service will take anywhere from 30 minutes to 3
hours per day, with the number of daily treatments being
determined by each individual's evaluation and progress.
To maximize their value, therapies will be completed at
various times of the day depending on the needs of each
individual resident.
