| Our Whisper
Glide Swing is designed with a comfortable seat for
family members facing the safety platform designed for use by
residents in wheelchairs. This swing promotes relaxation and
social interaction while serving as a catalyst for reflection
and reminiscence. It provides an opportunity for gentle exercise
as well as an outlet for hyperkinetic energy. It helps reduce
feelings of distress and anxiety.
Engagement areas on the Tate unit feature
piped in music, a dinette set and an area set aside for our
Reminiscence Program. Specially designed Cozy Corners are
set up throughout the facility to promote relaxation, visitation
and quiet time.
A bird watching area has been set up outside
the Essex Dining room so residents can spend their leisure
time watching the birds and learning about their behaviors
and interactions.
The family room features comfortable chairs
and sofas as well as a dinette set for the enjoyment of residents
and their visitors. Residents are allowed to maneuver about
the facility independently if they are safe to do so and many
of them enjoy spending time here where they have opportunities
to relax, read, play cards and/or board games and simply interact
with others. This enables our residents to continue enjoying
their customary leisure pursuits while gaining a sense of
independence.
The Music Therapy program incorporates the
use of a variety of instruments including drums, digital piano,
guitar and various rhythm instruments. Some of these music
therapies are used in connection with various physical therapy
programs, while others offer a chance for a resident to share
a quiet listening experience with fellow residents.
The Recreation Therapy Program offers aromatherapy
and sensory enhancement. Large-screen televisions make it
easy for residents to enjoy watching movies as well as numerous
other programs available through satellite television. Residents
can select from a library of over one hundred videos featuring
movies, musicals, foreign language films, travelogues, historical
series, sporting events and nature series.
The summer months feature outdoor barbeques where staff volunteers
help the nursing and dietary staffs treat the residents to
a good old fashioned picnic with hamburgers, hot dogs and
corn on the cob with watermelon for dessert.. These barbeques
are held on our beautiful patios where brightly colored market
umbrellas provide a comfortable shady area for residents to
enjoy the blue sky, fresh air and panoramic view of the Connecticut
mountains.
And whether you are here for a barbeque with loved ones or
you just want to stop in and say “Hello!”, our
bucolic location features acres of grassy lawns, paths and
even a pond where you can enjoy a picnic lunch and watch the
ducks and geese glide by.
