Alexian Brothers Lansdowne Village is part of the Worldwide Congregation of Alexian Brothers, founded in a health care ministry that dates back over six and a half centuries. The first recorded account of the Alexian Brothers, written during the mid-thirteenth century, tells of a group of religious men dedicated to a strict Christian lifestyle, with the goal of ministering to their fellowman. The basic Judeo-Christian beliefs that inspired the founders of this international Catholic religious congregation perpetuates this ministry to this day. Alexian Brothers Lansdowne Village, with its ongoing expansion of services, reaffirms the Alexian Brothers’ tradition of promoting the physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being of the elderly.

In the quality style of the Alexian Brothers, Lansdowne Village was built and established in 1988. The Village is one of the newest, most modern skilled nursing centers in South St. Louis.


Home is where we thrive, heal and feel better. That is why Alexian Brothers has established the Transitional Care Center—to provide the next step of rehabilitative care before a patient goes home.

Traditionally, patients requiring long-term recovery from an acute illness or injury have been treated in a hospital. Now, as an alternative to the traditional acute hospitalization, patients can continue to receive intensive rehabilitation or complex medical care in a nurturing, comfortable, home-like setting.

In a beautiful renovated 28-bed modern facility, complete with state-of-the-art equipment and private dining room, the Transitional Care Center provides the most innovative, cost effective approach to nursing and rehabilitative care.

Alexian Brothers Transitional Care Center provides all the support and the professional rehabilitative and medical care necessary for a patient to return home to regular daily activity.

Alexian Brothers Makes the Transition to Home

In an environment that promotes wellness, the Transitional Care Center provides the medically fragile patient all the care and technology to restore his or her capabilities.


In a warm, comfortable, home-like environment, resident’s accommodations include:

  • Private rooms

  • Individually controlled heating and air conditioning
  • Daily housekeeping
  • Emergency call system
  • Smoke alarms
  • Accommodations made for married residents
  • Semi-private rooms (designed on an alcove floor plan, which gives each resident plenty of space and natural light)

  • monitored exits and alarm systems
  • wheelchair accessibility to all rooms

Residents are encouraged to bring personal items: photographs, lamps, TVs and radios to make their room feel like home.

Throughout Lansdowne Village there are special places residents can visit.

Recreation and Activities

Alexian Brothers Lansdowne Village’s Social activities are conducted by the staff with the assistance of community volunteers. A wide variety of activities are planned on a regular basis. Music, games, crafts, library services, and entertainment groups keep residents busy. Residents look forward to holiday celebrations, barbecues, picnics and trips to the Missouri Botanical Gardens, or even shopping.

Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care is available at Alexian Brothers Lansdowne Village for residents and their families at all times. Pastoral Care makes regular visits with residents and our patients in the 
hospital. Residents can attend religious services in a quaint and intimate chapel setting. Interdenominational services 
are open to residents at various times throughout the week.

Social Services

Social Services are part of the quality care provided by Alexian Brothers Lansdowne Village. Knowledgeable and caring social workers are available to answer family questions about Medicare, Medicaid and supplemental insurance plans.

Our Village families and residents can depend on the Social Services department to:

  • Assist resident and family with the transition from the hospital to Alexian Brothers Lansdowne Village, and to home, when needed.
  • Work with Alzheimer’s residents and Alzheimer’s support groups
  • Address the psychological and emotional needs of residents.
