The primary purpose of
Children's Habilitation Center is the provision of total habilitative
health care to children who require specialized treatment, skilled nursing
care, and medical management. Because of their medical conditions
and development disabilities, an integrated program of physical medicine
and developmental services are required to meet their complex needs.
To consider admission, it is first important to state the context by
which placement becomes appropriate. We hold that the best and
most appropriate setting should be the child's home. However,
if the necessary support and services cannot be provided at home, admission
will be considered.
There are six basic
characteristics to be weighed by our Admissions Committee. They
are:
- Age
- Ambulatory status
- Level of functioning
- Medical condition
- Behavior
- Discharge potential
An admission is considered
weighing all characteristics to determine the need for placement.
Generally, we require
that a potential admission be:
- Aged birth to six
years
- Non-ambulatory
- Free of severe maladaptive
behaviors
- Requiring continuous
skilled nursing care and medical supervision for complicated conditions,
chronic long term or recurring medical conditions, such as:
- Ventilator dependence
- Severe respiratory
problems
- Hyperalimentation
- Uncontrolled seizure
activity
- Gastrostomy
- Tracheostomy
- Peritoneal dialysis
- Intravenous therapy
- Immune compromised
